PRP & Microneedling

What is PRP?

PRP is a natural product created from your own body and is the latest in the wave of skin rejuvenation procedures. A small amount of blood is drawn from the client and spun in a centrifuge to separate the different components of the blood. The platelets and plasma are separated and now contain a higher than normal number of platelets and is called platelet rich plasma, or PRP. Growth factors in the PRP serum and platelets are the main agents that help stimulate and repair the skin. The plasma that is enriched with your own platelets contain various growth factors that can help to remodel and repair skin damage by creating new skin. At Qvita health and Wellness, we use one of the #1 PRP blood collection brands, DrPRP.

Rejuvenation and Anti-aging Uses of DrPRP:

PRP is used to enhance facial volume, plump and fill in fine lines and wrinkles, and can be successfully utilized in the delicate areas around the eyes and mouth, where dermal fillers, lasers and neurotoxins may not be as effective. During a PRP skin treatment, a highly concentrated form of the client’s own blood is injected into the treatment area, stimulating the body’s stem cells to produce new collagen and blood vessels (responsible for delivering oxygen to bodily tissues and promoting cell turnover), thereby minimizing the appearance of any current signs of aging, and working to prevent the future formation of wrinkles and fine lines.

PRP is safe and effective on all skin types and colors. Because PRP is an autologous material (comprised of material from the client’s body) there is little to no risk of allergic reaction with PRP treatments. This is a non-invasive treatment offered at Qvita Health and Wellness that requires only the application of a topical numbing cream. The procedures causes minimal discomfort, no post-treatment downtime, and does not leave any scars. Side effects people may experience include minimal swelling, bruising and redness around the injection site, which typically subsides within 12-24 hours. Within 8 weeks, clients will notice significant improvement in skin texture and tone, which will continue to improve until the collagen regeneration process is complete (approximately 3 months after initial injection). PRP provides long-lasting results—rejuvenating effects can last anywhere from 9 months to 2 years (touch-up maintenance treatments will further increase the longevity of PRP’s treatment benefits)

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is an aesthetic treatment that encourages your skin to revitalize and renew itself naturally. The microneedling device slides along the skin, penetrating the upper layers of the skin to a specified depth to create numerous tiny needle wounds. The procedure prompts the body to respond through the creation of new collagen and elastin fibers. In response to the stimulus, the skin plumps and thickens, reducing the appearance of scars, stretch marks and fine lines and wrinkles. Microneedling is a gentler anti-aging therapy than other forms of skin resurfacing, encouraging collagen production while at the same time helping to reduce the appearance of sun spots and other signs of aging. A long-lasting solution that works in conjunction with your body’s natural rejuvenation process, microneedling stimulates your skin’s ability to actually repair itself. Microneedling produces microscopic channels in the dermis to help stimulate the body’s natural defenses and produce a thickening of the skin by up to 80 percent. Scars, stretch marks and wrinkles can be visibly reduced with no injections, incisions or downtime required.

Microneedling and PRP

Micro-needling with DrPRP, commonly known as the “Vampire Facial”, is often performed with DrPRP on the skin in order to trigger a healing response. A pen-like device is used for micro-needling that contains many tiny needles that create hundreds of tiny channels in the skin. The micro-channels created by the micro-needling pen provide a direct pathway to the deeper layers of the skin. The DrRP is then topically applied to the skin immediately following the micro-needling procedure. This is the first step in order to provoke healing and to help speed and intensify the repair and rejuvenation of your skin. We then apply your own processed serum, or DrPRP to the skin. DrPRP is used for facial rejuvenation that works by targeting the collagen within the dermis of your skin by using your own body’s growth factors. This helps to create new collagen as well as revive the existing collagen.

What Areas Can Micro-needling with PRP Be Performed?

Microneedling at Qvita Health and Wellness can be performed in various areas to help improve the facial appearance. The various areas where our microneedling with PRP can help rejuvenate include:

  • Crow’s feet around the eyes
  • Under eye bags and circles
  • Nasolabial folds (smile lines)
  • Neck Wrinkles
  • Forehead and cheek area.
  • Peri-oral area (lip lines)

How many treatments are needed to see optimal results?

We recommend a series of microneedling with PRP treatments. The series generally should consist of at least three treatments approximately six weeks apart to gain the best results.  Yearly treatments are recommended for maintanence.

What to expect after PRP?

  • Minimal downtime – most patients can return to work or other daily activities the same day of their microneedling procedure
  • Expect some redness lasting around 1-3 days following a microneedling procedure
  • Results continue to improve over several months
  • Mild swelling, redness, or bruising fades within 1-3 days after the procedure.
  • Immediately after the treatment there maybe some pin point bleeding and some redness, which is variable but usually subsides within 24-48 hours
  • Bruising is a possibility as the needle is used to place the PRP into the skin

Aftercare:

Keep the area clean even from makeup following the initial treatment session. We recommend you use a mild cleanser and apply a moisturizer or aquaphor after the treatment for the first two days. You can use mild soap with shower water two days post procedure. Use sunscreen to avoid pigmentation for sun exposure. Massage should be avoided at this time. More aggressive treatment may result in skin flaking as the new skin layer regenerates, moisturizer are recommended.
